Old Snow

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart:
his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.
Psalm 55:21

Old snow still lays white

Crusted in ice yet hollow

Treacherous stepping

Thinking about how things aren't always as they seem.  It's easy to see it in the physical world around me.  The snow, the ice, beauty and the beast.  Not always so easy to see it in the emotional and relational world.  But, I always find God in the mix.  Our good God.  Our help.  The next verse in the psalm -- the next thought, the next drawing of breath...

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee:
he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Amen, right?

  1. Beautiful snow - so glad He is in the mix of it!! We don't have new snow yet - and am waiting with great expectation.

    1. I am delighted with the view of snow from my windows each day, not so delighted with the shoveling! Our family is new to the 'North Country' and having weather forecasts predict snowfall in feet (rather than inches) is a bit daunting. It is strange how the snow becomes a metaphor for living... It is so cold most days, the snow just doesn't melt between -- it just ices over, so that when the sky is blue and the sun is shining, caps of ice reflect the light from the windblown snow dunes (now I feel another poem coming on...). It fascinates me, because as the tops grow hard and icy, the inside becomes softer and porous. Kind of like people -- I digress... I am glad you could visit and I wish you gentle snow and white blankets of beauty. Hugs, Janet

  2. And, as I often, all we can do is count on and focus on God...no matter what else is happening around and about us in our local area and in the whole world. Much in my heart. MUCH!! Thank you for sharing. And I like the photo and the Word..

    1. You are so right, Caryjo - my heart is burdened as well - but "I know that my redeemer lives" Our redeemer lives. I know that our focus on God is right and good. Thank you for the reminder. I am glad that you could visit, friend. Janet

I know we probably haven't met in person, but I believe that the sharing of our ideas and thoughts, sometimes our hearts and souls, makes us more than strangers. I would like to say friends. Thank you for taking the time to contribute to my little space - I appreciate you.
