You are Here

It's Five-Minute Friday, where I join a community of writers on a one-word prompt. Five minutes. Just five minutes to write, and in that writing, to incorporate the one word. No editing, no rewriting, no going back. The prompt this week is: here.

You are here
Like at the mall
And I'm looking at the shop directory
The map with the yellow star
Just past the Food Court
Fragrance of Cinnabuns
Like fine perfume
I have to find the restroom

You are here
I watch the blue dot
On my phone
Move along a black thread
Untangled from back roads
Hay bundles litter the fields
Furred checkers
On a titan gameboard
Fresh breath of clean

You are here
The U-haul orange
Almost hits the eaves
Ramp clanks
Dolley-wheels squeak
Garage door rumbles open
Empty house
Soon-to-be filled
Smells like emptiness

You are here
My finger points to the number
Chapter and verse
My daughter's bible
On her lap in church
Next to the journal
Where she copies holy words
Of grace and love
I inhale her innocence and
Exhale prayers for her safety

You are here.
On this journey
In this place
Wrapped in His arms
Peace to you

You are here.

  2. Janet, I am glad I was here! These are the words I will take with me today ...
    "You are here.
    On this journey
    In this place
    Wrapped in His arms
    Peace to you"

Thank you! Thank you! And may He wrap you in His arms as well today & fill you with all you need! Truly grateful to have been your neighbor this morning at FMF!

    1. Joanne - I'm glad you came by - so (joking), you're not taking the 'find the restroom' words with you? Gosh, it seems that's my ENTIRE goal somedays...

Seriously - I've been reading in the words of others, and feeling the need in my own life, to feel His peace. There seems to be a universal sense of anxiety and worry, lately - maybe it's the school-starting thing - maybe it's something more... We are such a 'wandering' world, aren't we? "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever." John 14:16 (KJV)

  3. Janet, what a beautiful post. I love all the different places that indicate, "You are Here." As you read, sometimes I struggle with my Here, but I wouldn't trade it.

But what you wrote: "√You are here.
    On this journey
    In this place
    Wrapped in His arms
    Peace to you"

This spoke to me. I love the visual that I (and each of God's kids) am wrapped in His arms. Thank goodness He's such a wise comforter!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today! Have a great weekend.

    1. Hi Jeanne,
I sometimes struggle with my here as well...last winter comes to mind. I went to high school in Phoenix and so didn't experience a lot of snow, so the first snows of the season always feel a little magical to me. However, last winter, we received more snow than I EVER thought I'd see - so magic turned to complaint. The snow didn't change - I did - it was an attitude thing and I needed to fix it. I think our hearts and minds sometimes get a little 'here-loaded' and it becomes an attitude thing. Knowing that I'm ALWAYS in the arms of Jesus helps me. Thank goodness is right, and I wouldn't trade me here, either...

Thank you for your encouragement, today. Have a wonderful week!

  4. Janet, this is stunning. Love every word. My fave line is this: "You are here, My finger points to the number, Chapter and verse, My daughter's bible, On her lap in church, Next to the journal, Where she copies holy words, Of grace and love. I inhale her innocence and, Exhale prayers for her safety." Thanks for stopping by my place too!

    1. Hi Tara,
Big smile - My daughter surprises me on a regular basis. She was given the journal as a 'first visitor to the chapel' gift. I'm going to have to get her another one soon - this one is filling up quickly as she copies out the scripture for the sermons each Sunday. At first, she tried to write the words from the screens in front, but they changed too quickly for her to keep up. So I showed her how to find them in her Bible. Sometimes she finds them on her own, sometimes I have to help. Funny thing, I've also begun finding underlined passages in my Study Bible - passages I didn't underline - she did. I honestly don't know how much of this she understands, at least, in our sense of the word...But I believe her spirit understands much.
I am thankful for your visit. I hope you have a wonderful week.

I know we probably haven't met in person, but I believe that the sharing of our ideas and thoughts, sometimes our hearts and souls, makes us more than strangers. I would like to say friends. Thank you for taking the time to contribute to my little space - I appreciate you.
